Book’s Music podcast #355

Book’s Music podcast #355 by Booksmusic on Mixcloud

After a great collage last week of funny country songs, the Book’s Music podcast returns to the assorted box of assortments you’ve come to know and love. Diversity is always the key in “the radio show that radio forgot”.

RECORD CRACK: Polypsis present song from new split 7″

If you’re into noise pop, you’ll want to check out a duo out of Champaign, Illinois called Polypsis, although the page I came across calls this a “solo project” so it may be one or the other or both. They have released a split 7″ single with Kamila Glowacki, only 300 copies are being pressed, 200 on standard black vinyl, 100 on white vinyl. To order your copy, click here.

SOME STUFFS: The Lovely Eggs hope to impress America with release of “Wildlife” in May

 photo TheLovelyEggs_old_zps5e905dc0.jpg
The internet makes it possible to discover anyone and everyone pertaining to music but despite the lack of territories in the virtual world, they still exist in the real world. Most of you may not be familiar yet with a duo who call themselves The Lovely Eggs, but now you can change that.

The band have already released three albums since 2009, the latest one coming out two years ago which they called Wildlife (Egg). Their brand of punk rock is infectious, and they want to expand the infections. Red Eye will be releasing all three of their albums in the U.S. on May 20th, and while you may have found a way to download it before everyone else, then it’s your role to let your friends know about this band by telling them to buy their own copies.

While the music will be stateside, their next batch of concerts will be all in UK, but warm up to them and maybe they’ll head to the states very soon:
July 24-27… Huntingdon, England (The Secret Garden Party)
July 25-27… Dorset, England (Forever Sun Festival)
August 3-31… Dorset, England (Camp Bestival)
October 4… Nottingham, England (Nottingham Pop All-Dayer)

AUDIO: Red Eye featuring Mr. Cheeks’ “Hemperor’s Theme”

It has been awhile since we heard anything new from Mr. Cheeks but he finds himself in a new song by Red Eye called “Hemperor’s Theme”. Produced by DJ Tray, “Hemperor’s Theme” is a song for those who are monarchs about the marijuana they smoke and perhaps grow. It’s quite nice, and you don’t have to be pro-weed to enjoy it.

AUDIO: J-Live featuring Sam London & Tanya Morgan’s “City To City”

With a new album on its way in six days, J-Live is gearing for a solid release with Around The Sun and for “City To City”, he brought in Sam London and Tanya Morgan for a bit of solid hip-hop assistance, so here it is.

SOME STUFFS: Frontier(s) offer pre-orders for forthcoming EP

White Lights is the latest effort from Frontier(s), who will be releasing the 5-song effort in July. Right now, you may pre-order the record now by clicking the Bandcamp link above or heading to Tiny Engines. The record will be sold in three color variations:

  • white with “blue and brown” starburst
  • opaque grey
  • clear
There is also a special bundle where you’re able to buy all three variations. You can of course pre-order the digital files as well. To get a hint of what Frontier(s) have been up to, listen to a song from White Lights called “Our March” below via Soundcloud. If the Soundcloud player isn’t available, it is also streaming above via Bandcamp.

  • SOME STUFFS: Sorceress set May 20th as release date for new album

On the way from Wonderwheel Recordings is Dose, a brand new dose of music from New Zealand’s Sorceress, whom some of you may be familiar with when they were called Funkommunity. They’re hoping a more simplified name will bring them to the rest of the world without complication, and with a bit of attention being paid to New Zealand music, perhaps this will be their time to shine and represent Aotearoa. You may have a listen to “Teacups” and to pre-order the album in full, check out the Bandcamp page for the album.

SOME STUFFS: Turchi release new album this week, record release shows begin tomorrow

     photo Turchi_old_zpsf37ebfc8.jpg
Can’t Bury Your Past is the latest album from blues rock friends Turchi, who released it yesterday on the Devil Down label. Fronted by Reed Turchi, Turchi show what it means to get back to the roots of the music, whether it means rediscovering the blues, country, or whatever you can find when walking through the woods barefoot with a guitar in your hand. It’s what it means to be a North Carolina resident, at least for Turchi, and he and the band are ready to share that feeling with you. Listen to how gritty they are with “Take Me Back Home”.

They will be doing a number of shows in the coming weeks, check them out and show up early. Shows in June will also include fellow North Carolinians Campfires & Constellations:
April 24… Chapel Hill, NC (Local 506)
April 25… Durham, NC (Blue Note Grill)
April 26… Cape Charles, VA (Kelly’s Gingernut Pub)
    April 27… Wilmington, NC (Lagerheads)
June 21… Lafayette, LA (Artmosphere) Ҽ
June 26… Nashville, TN (Soulshine Pizza Factory) Ҽ
    June 27 & 29… Cape Charles, VA (Kelly’s Gingernut Pub) Ҽ

    Ҽ = w/ Campfires & Constellations

Reed Turchi will also be doing two solo performances, both at breweries:
May 3… Waynesville, NC (Tipping Point Brewery)
May 23… Waynesville, NC (Frog Level Brewery)

FREE MP3 DL: Gone Wallace featuring Breeze’s “Anything”

Gone Wallace will be releasing his debut album next week Tuesday called Cult Classic and he is offering a preview of one of the tracks here, produced by Amazing Prophet called “Anything”. For those in or near Philly, you should already know and if you don’t, act like you do and get with it.

SOME STUFFS: Terracotta Blue releases “Sweetheart” for the summer

We may be in the first half of spring, but many people are looking forward to the warmth and potential good times of summer, for it may mean a way to spend time with or find a sweetheart to call your own. This is what Terracotta Blue raps about in his new track with Carnegie, and the song is now available for download via Bandcamp. It has a slight Portlandia feel but left of center, if not under.

    AUDIO: WriteGroove’s “NvrGoes”

When someone in hip-hop says they’ve made “a very soulful song”, that could lead to a number of places. Do you need to mention how soulful you are, or should you just release and let the people decide? Maybe it’s a matter of letting listeners know about the vibe, but to me, the vibe of “NvrGoes” is so damn good that it moves me, partially because it’s soulful but primarily because it’s a damn good song. You may want to act right while listening to this, a track produced by Ackryte, but clocking in at only 2:15, it feels like it’s missing a verse or something. I’m not sure, but I want the full soul vibe of this.
